Summer Mandala

I haven’t written anything for my blog for several months.  I intend to resume a more frequent schedule.

I purchased my first set of alcohol-based markers in July and have enjoyed creating with them since.  The mandala for today is on extra thick 22X30-inch poster board.   Alcohol-based markers absorb very easily and require thicker paper.

I began by using my 6-inch round protractor to mark 15 points in a circle around the central point. The 15 points are 24 degrees apart.  (24, 48, 72, 96, 120, 144, 168, 192, 216, 240, 264, 288, 312, 336, 360).

I drew a larger 16.5-inch circle using the same center point.  Using my center point and each of the 15 points in the smaller circle I extended a line from the center to the outer circle.  I connected each of the 15 points on the outer circle to 4 other points on the outer circle, two on each side of the line to the center.

Finally, I colored the mandala in peaceful colors. I had become frustrated with the imperfections but tried to make up for the messiness with artistic innovation.

The shiny circle in the center is my plastic protractor which shows the size of my original circle.
